Hensel, the Well-Known Horseman and Auctioneer Died Last Evening. Charles H. Hensel, the well-known auctioneer and horseman died at 9.25 o'clock last night at his home 1906 Eighth avenue, of paralysis after an illness of three months. He was born in Cashtown, Adams county, Pa., May 11, 1841. On the 16th of October, 1862, he enlisted in company D, One Hundred and Sixty-fifth Pennsylvania volunteers. He was in the first expedition to North Carolina in April, 1863, and took part in the siege of Suffolk, Va. He also participated in the skirmish at Carrolsville, Va., and belonged to the division that assisted in the destruction of the Petersburg and Weldon railroads. He was discharged from the army July 28, 1863. In 1869 he married Miss Elizabeth Wolf, of Adams county. To this union eight children were born of whom survive as follows: Charles A., at home; Mrs. J. K. Wilson, of 410 Fourth avenue; Mrs. Ida Munger, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. W. C. Lytle, of New York city. He is also survived by his wife and the following brothers: David and Amos Hensel, of Madara, Clearfield county, and James, John and Emory Hensel, of Chicago. Mr. Hensel has lived in Altoona for twenty-two years and had the reputation of being one of the best horsemen and one of the most successful auctioneers in the state. Before he came to this city he was engaged in the butchering business at Janesville, Clearfield county. He traveled all over the United States as a salesman or purchasing agent of horses. The funeral will take place on Friday at 9.30 a.m. Public services will be conducted at the late home of the deceased, after which there will be a private burial of the remains in Fairview cemetery.
