Herring, of 723 Chestnut avenue, rear, colored, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, of a complication of diseases. He was formerly night janitor at the Mirror building. He was born March 20, 56 years ago, in Kansas, and came here about twenty-five years ago. He wedded Mrs. Robert Hogans, in September, 1908, in this city. She survives with two step-children, Mrs. Elizabeth King, Scranton, and Mrs. Elizabeth Gaskins, Virginia. Seven grandchildren also survive, including Percy Gaskins, who resided with his grandparents here. Herring was a Presbyterian, and Wendell Phillips lodge, No. 2513, I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at his late home. Burial in Eastern Light cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, January 16, 1919, page 5
