About 9 o'clock Thursday morning, when William P. Heverly and his son Harry were engaged at work in the coal mine of R. H. Spendley, four miles from Tipton, an accident occurred which resulted in the death of Mr. Heverly about fifteen minutes later. Mr. Heverly and his son were engaged at their work taking out coal when a large amount of coal overhead became loose and, falling, crushed him in a terrible manner. Every possible attention was at once given the injured man, but he died in a short time. He was a married man and leaves a wife and children. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, April 11, 1891 Killed by a Fall of Coal. An accident happened at the coal mine of R. H. Spendley, four miles from Tipton station, about nine o'clock this morning, which resulted in the death of William P. Heverly, who resided near the mine in which he was employed. He was at one time a resident of Tyrone. Mr. Heverly was engaged with his son Harry, at work in the mine, when a large amount of coal above him became loose and falling crushed him terribly. Speedy attention was given the injured man but the shock was too great and he died fifteen minutes after the accident occurred. Deceased was a middle-aged man and leaves a wife and six children suddenly and sadly bereft. Coroner Poet came to Tipton from Altoona this afternoon to hold the inquest, the result of which has not yet been made public.
