PATRICK HICKEY

A well known resident of Altoona, died of stomach trouble, after an 
illness of several weeks, at 3:05 o'clock Sunday morning at his home, 
1307 Seventeenth avenue.  Deceased was born in County Meath, Ireland, 
September 8, 1828.  He came to America when a boy and for more than 
fifty years has been a resident of this city.  He had been in the 
employ of the Pennsylvania railroad company for a half century and when 
retired from service, January 1, 1900, was a stack inspector at No. 3 
roundhouse.  He was a jovial gentleman.  In his younger days he was 
famous as an Irish jig dancer.  Even after he was retired by the 
railroad company he was sufficiently spry to do fancy steps with a much 
younger man.  He was a great friend of the noted Irish comedian, J. K. 
Emmet, and the latter never played in Altoona that he did not visit his 
friend.  Mr. Hickey was a member of St. John's Catholic church and the 
Pennsylvania railroad relief association.  He is survived by his wife 
and two daughters - Misses Alice and Sarah, at home; also by one 
brother, Thomas Hickey, of Altoona.  The funeral will take place on 
Wednesday morning, services to be conducted at 9 o'clock in St. John's 
pro-cathedral.  Interment in St. John's cemetery.
