Hite. 51, of Broad Avenue, formerly of Hyndman, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 04, 2004, at Altoona Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1952, in Cumberland, Md., the son of Eugene N. Hite, Hindman, and the late P. Colleen (Scritchfield) Hite. Mr. Hite was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hyndman. He was a talented musician and often played organ on a substitute basis for Lutheran and UCC congregations in Altoona. He was a 1970 graduate of Hyndman High School. He received his B.S. from Frostburg University and his M. Ed. from St. Francis University, Loretto. He was the director of ACEL for Home Nursing Agency, Altoona. In spring, 2004, he received the Mary B. Craft award as the employee who most "exemplifies" the ideals and values of Home Nursing Agency. He served on the board of directors of CONTACT, a crisis intervention agency, and was a former recipient of CONTACT'S volunteer of the year award. He was also a member of the Mental Retardation Services of Blair County and a member of the advisory board of Blair Senior Services. He had received the J. C. Penny award for community service. He was very active in Altoona Community Theatre, where he was recently the production manager for "Peter Pan." Mr. Hite is survived by two brothers: Robert L. "Bob" Hite and his wife Karen (Bashang), Corriganville, and Roger L. Hite and his wife Patty (Shoemaker), Schellsburg; and two sisters: Beverly H. Johnson and husband, Keith, Ellerslie, Md., and Diane H. Riggin and husband, Tim Shrewsburg; special Aunts, Lulu Oxley, near whom he resided, and Mildred Mason, Cooks Mill; numerous nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles and too many deeply-loved friends in Altoona to name. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Steven L. Craft officiating. Interment will be at Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the CONTACT fund collected in Mr. Hite's name by Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Home Nursing Agency--ACEL, 100 Lakemont Park Blvd., Altoona, Pa. 16602 or any charity of choice.
