(McELHENNY), 1946 _________________________________________ CHARLES H. HOFFMAN Mr. Hoffman, 61, of Box 807, RD 3, died at 1:20 a.m. today, July 1, 1985, in Mercy Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hoffman was a production assistant at SKF Industries, with 20 years service. He was born July 20, 1923, in Altoona, the son of Lloyd C. and Ruth I. (Henry) Hoffman, and Oct. 22, 1942, in Elkton, Md., married Leda M. Helsel. Surviving are his wife, three daughters: Judith Getty of Killingworth, Conn.; Virginia Sharp of Poquoson, Va.; and June Weston of Altoona, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and a sister: Robert L of Dresden, N. Y. and Miriam Kempf of Altoona. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Hoffman was a member of James L. Noble VFW Post and the Mountain Lodge, F&AM. Friends will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Juniata. Altoona Mirror, July 1, 1985 ________ MRS. D. F. HOFFMAN Died at her home, 517 Twenty-second avenue, at 5:25 o'clock last evening, of dropsy, after an illness marked by much suffering. Mrs. Hoffman whose maiden name was Clarissa Cochanaur, was born March 28, 1862, at Conemaugh. She was united in marriage in 1879, to D. Franklin Hoffman and for thirty-two years they had been residents of Altoona. She was a faithful member of the First United Presbyterian church; also of the Fairview Union Sunday school. One daughter preceded her to the grave last October, and there survive, beside her husband, three daughters and five sons: Mrs. Tessie Burt, Mrs. Annie McAlarney, Miss Edna, Samuel G. Frank, Chester and Rosco, all of Altoona, and Russell H. of Pittsburgh. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Services will be conducted at her late residence by Rev. David R. Turnbull, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church, who will be assisted by Rev. J. N. Young, pastor of the Fairview Methodist church. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. clipping dated April 19, 1913 ________ FRANK W. HOFFMAN Frank W. Hoffman Dead He Was a Letter Carrier For Seventeen Years - Sick For Seven Months. Letter Carrier Frank W. Hoffman died at 11 o'clock this morning at his home, No. 59 South Marshall street. Four years ago he had a severe attack of pneumonia, since which time he has been in failing health. He was obliged to retire from duty as a letter carrier on November 24, since which time he was confined to the house and for the past six months to bed. His physician gives bronchial catarrh as the cause of death. Mr. Hoffman was a son of Rebecca and the late William N. Hoffman, and was born in this city on August 15, 1857. He learned the trade of currier at the tannery of A. A. Myers, and subsequently was employed at Locher's tannery. He was appointed a letter carrier by Postmaster Marshall in 1884, and served until Postmaster Slaymaster was installed into office, when he was retired. He was reappointed by post master Griest in 1889, and served continuously until failing health compelled him to quit work. He took an active interest in military affairs, and served as an officer in several local military companies. He was captain of the Lancaster (??)ncibles [Fencibles] at the time of his death. He was a member of Blue Cross castle, No. 46, Knights of the Golden Eagle, and was captain of Blue Cross commandery for several terms. he was also a member of Conestoga council, Artisans' Order of Mutual Protection, and of Trinity Lutheran church. His wife and these children survive: Charles S., Lloyd C., and Viola M. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made, but it will probably be on Sunday afternoon. Intelligencer, Lancaster, PA, Wednesday, July 23, 1902 ________ LLOYD C. HOFFMAN Formerly of 218 E. Third Ave., died at 2.45 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 6, 1977, at the Valley View Home, after an extended illness. Mr. Hoffman retired Jan. 9, 1955, from the Pennsylvania Railroad as a machinist with 50 years service. He was born June 23,1886, in Lancaster, a son of Franklin W. and Susan Ann (McIllhenny) Hoffman, and married Ruth Irene Henry on Aug. 26, 1915. Mrs. Hoffman died Dec. 23, 1976. Surviving are three children, Robert L. of Dresden, N. Y., and Mrs. Miriam Kempf and Charles H. of Altoona; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Mountain Lodge, F&AM, Jaffa Temple, Mountain Commandery Knights Templar, and Harrisburg Consistory. Friends will be received in the Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow. Altoona Mirror, January 7, 1977 ________ ROBERT L. HOFFMAN Mr. Hoffman, 70, of 66 Charles St., Dresden, N. Y., formerly of Altoona, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1986, in his residence. Mr. Hoffman retired as a unit boiler operator for the New York State Electric and Gas Company. He was born June 25, 1916, in Franklin, the son of Lloyd C. and Ruth I. (Henry) Hoffman, and married Jessie Carson. Surviving are his wife, and two children: Robert C. of Cary, N. C., and Donna Gelder of Dresden, and two grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Miriam I. Kempf of Altoona. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church. Arrangements by the Weldon Funeral Home, Penn Yan, N. Y. She was born June 19, 1887, in Altoona, a daughter of Martin L. and Ida Mae (Stern) Henry, and Aug. 26, 1915, in Altoona, was married to Lloyd C. Hoffman. Surviving are her husband, three children, Mrs. Miriam Kempf and Charles H. of Altoona and Robert L. of Dresden, N. Y.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Jess Gearhart of Huntingdon. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Branches of the Vine Sunday School Class and Lutheran Church Women. She was also a member of Chapter 290, Order of the Eastern Star, and Jobel Court. HOFFMAN Mrs. Susan A. Hoffman, ninety, resident of the Long Home, died at 11 P.m. Sunday after a five-year illness. The daughter of the late George and Elmira Stormfeltz McElhenny, she was born in Manheim Township, and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by two children, Lloyd C. Hoffman, Altoona, and Mrs. Viola Walzl, Burntwood, Md. Also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Clara Neff, Perryville, Md.; Mrs. Alice Jensen, Drexel Hill.; and George M.
