Hoffman, 87, formerly of 403 South Second St., Bellwood, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Carol Goon, 623 N. Sixth St., Bellwood. She was born April 18, 1916 in Birmingham, Ala., a daughter of the late William and Rose (Dowdy) Carroll. She married James F. Hoffman on Aug. 7, 1948 in Lancaster. He died Dec. 16, 1980. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by two sons: James F. Jr. and William C. Both of Bellwood; two daughters, Carol F. Goon, with whom she resided, and Sally M. Brooks of Carlisle; 13 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren; and sister Pearl Willis of Cleveland, Ala. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. She retired as a registered nurse at the Altoona Hospital. Mrs. Hoffman served as a captain with the Army Corps of Nurses during World War II. Mrs. Hoffman had attended the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Tipton Baptist Church and a member of AARP. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 29, 2003 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home in Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at the funeral home with Rev. George W. Kelley officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery in Bellwood.
