Joseph Homsey, Jr., 80, of Tyrone RD 2, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2005. Born in Williamsburg on Dec. 26, 1924 to the late Joseph and Pauline (Wapner) Homsey. He attended Williamsburg High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The landing craft he was operating at Omaha Beach on D-Day was hit with German artillery and sunk. Joseph survived the Normandy invasion and a Naval tour in the Pacific. He returned home in 1945 and began his 40-year career as a conductor at the Pennsylvania Railroad/Conrail where he retired. Joseph married Frances T. Kneidinger on Jan. 23, 1950 in Winchester, VA. He is survived by his wife; son: Joe of Marietta, GA; daughters: Mona L. Rosskamp, Saxonburg; Sherrie F. Tun, Concord, CA and Bonita S. Finley, Marietta, GA. He was preceded in death by a son Terrance "Corky" in 1990. Joseph's grandchildren are Lisa Finley, Stacie and Jennifer Tun and Mallory Homsey; younger sisters: Pauline Stewart, State College; Mary Mackie, Sonoma, CA and a brother, Michael A. Homsey, Mechanicsburg. Mr. Homsey was also preceded in death by sisters, Ann Skvir and Helen Holovich and brother, Benjamin. Joseph was active in youth baseball as a coach for little league and American Legion baseball teams in the Bellwood area for many years. He was also active in various other sports organizations. He held the position of secretary for Brush Mountain and Riggles Gap Sportsman Associations in the 1950s and 1960s. More recently, Joseph was a very active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Tyrone Lodge No. 212. He served in many officer positions over the course of two decades; past exhalted ruler of Tyrone Lodge, district deputy, district state vice president and also long time secretary for the Tyrone Lodge. Joseph will be remembered for his many contributions. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 8 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the funeral home with Rev. David H. Roesch officiating. Tyrone Daily Herald, July 7, 2005
