All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ WILLIAM HOOK, A well-known resident of this city, and an ex-engineer of the Pennsylvania railroad, Middle division, died at the home of his son, James Hook, 1429 Ninth avenue, of dropsy of the heart, at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been ailing almost a year. Deceased was born in Blair county, October 17, 1838, and for many years had been a resident of Altoona. He was a veteran of the civil war, having served with Captain Harry Wayne's company, Sixty-second regiment; also of the Second Pennsylvania cavalry. For thirty-three years he had followed railroading, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by these sons and daughters: James, Roy and Harry, of Altoona; Howard, of Pittsburg; Mrs. Laura Rodgers, of Cleveland, and Jessie Hook, of Altoona. He is also survived by these brothers and sisters: Samuel Hook, of Altoona; Clayton Hook, of Bellwood, and Mrs. Martha Brown, of Harrisburg. Funeral services will be conducted at the house on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by Rev. Thomas S. Wilcox, pastor of the Eighth Avenue Methodist church. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
