Eckenrod, died very suddenly on last Wednesday of membraneous croup. Dr. H. B. Piper saw the child on Monday night, but he was sleeping at the time and the Doctor didn't awaken him but left medicine for him. On Tuesday he was taken worse, and as Dr. Piper was in Altoona, Dr. Ewing was called in and visited the child twice and left him, as he thought, in better condition. On Wednesday the little fellow was again taken worse, and as both Drs. Piper and Ewing were in Altoona attending the Convention, Dr. Clarke was called into the case, and notwithstanding every effort was made to give the lad relief he succumbed to the disease. This is a very sad case and is a severe blow to his mother, who lost her husband but a short time ago, and now death steps in a robs her of her only child. Surely trouble never comes single handed, and they seem to press more heavily on some than on others. She has the sympathy of our community and also the consolation of knowing that father and child are now united in the realms of eternal bliss, and can look forward as a consistent christian to the time when all will again be united in the home that knows no parting and where troubles never enter. We did not learn up to this writing when the funeral will take place. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Friday, June 19, 1885, page 2 TYRONE TOPICS. On Wednesday evening death entered the home of Mrs. Hoover and claimed the soul of little Charles. The disease that proved fatal was membraneous croup, and was but a few hours in affecting its work. The day previous to his death the little fellow had been to school and in the enjoyment of good health. He was in his 6th year. His father, Mr. Joseph Hoover, died some two years ago rather suddenly.
