Hopkins, age 85, formerly of 330 Clay Avenue, Tyrone and a guest at Colonial Courtyard died Monday, July 30, 2007 at 8:06 p.m. She was born July 12, 1922 in Shenandoah, Pa. the daughter of Wilber Owen and Elizabeth Pierson Duff. On November 25, 1946 she was married to Donald Eugene Hopkins who preceded her in death November 4, 2006. She is survived by seven children: James E. (Carol) Hopkins of Yorkville, IL; Ronald E. Hopkins and Linda M. (Glenn) Stevens, both of Tyrone; John D. (Jane) Hopkins of Boalsburg; Margaret A. (Jim) Smith of Broken Arrow, OK; David L. Hopkins of King of Prussia and Robert W. (Brenda) Hopkins of Tyrone. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren for a total of 37 descendants. A sister, Evelyn Duff McCoy of Tyrone also survives. She was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant sister. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and had served as church historian. For many years she had served as a Scout den mother and as a member of the fifth ward election board. She enjoyed quilting with the women at the Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1940 and had been employed by Reliance Manufacturing and as a proofreader in the offset printing department of the Tyrone Daily Herald. Funeral service for Thelma E. Hopkins will be Friday, August 3, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Barry Neal officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, PA Avenue and 14th Street, Tyrone, Pa. 16686 to be used for children and youth programs.
