Hostler, 96, of 510 N. First Street, Bellwood, died Wednesday evening, June 2, 2004 At Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital. He was born October 31, 1907 in Bellwood. A son of the late Rueben L. and Bertha (Snouffer) Hostler. He married Thelma Barclay on September 24, 1926 in Cumberland, MD. She died on March 11, 1992. Mr. Hostler is survived by a son: Kenneth W. of Tipton; two daughters: C. Joanne DeArmitt of Tacoma, WA and Judith A. Shelow of Bellwood; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; four sisters: Virginia Root of Colonial Heights, VA, Nita Hamilton of Newport News, VA, Shirley Dotzauer of Williamsburg, VA and Marian Casady of Indiana; four brothers: Gilbert of Baldwin, MO, Virgil and Ray, both of Pittsburgh and Stanley of Charleston, WV. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Joyce M. Rumberger; son Clarence E. "Bud" Hostler; granddaughter, Diana Tautic; grandson, Steven G. Beecher; sisters: Violet Hirschbiel and Lillian Hettinger and brothers, Dean, Eugene and Norman. Mr. Hostler was hired in 1925 as a locomotive fireman with PRR and retired in October of 1972 as a passenger locomotive engineer from Penn Central Railroad with 47 years of total service. He served as Mayor of Bellwood for six years and he was a former councilman. He was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis Schools. Mr. Hostler was a member of Bellwood Church of Brethren. He was a lifetime member of the Bellwood Church of the Brethren. He was a lifetime member of the Bellwood Sportmens and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers where he served as local chairman and business agent. He was a lifetime member of the Bellwood-Antis Historical Society. Mr. Hostler was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 4 and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Beichler officiating. Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellwood-Antis Library. Arrangements are being handled by the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Tyrone Daily Herald, June 4, 2004
