All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ RAILROAD FIREMAN DIES OF INJURES Injuries suffered about 2 o'clock Saturday morning when he was struck by some protruding object on a passing train proved fatal to Ernest O. Houck, aged 36, of 913 First avenue, fireman on an eastbound train, who died in the Lewistown hospital at 3:30 o'clock yesterday morning. The accident occurred in the vicinity of Mifflin and the injured man was removed to the Lewistown hospital suffering from a fracture of the skull and injuries about the chest. He was sitting at the locomotive cabin window at the time of the accident and was thrown to the floor of the cabin. Mr. Houck was born at Dunbarvin [sic], near Warriors Mark, June 2, 1893. For the past thirteen years he had been employed as a fireman on the Middle division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine (Bradley) Houck, and three children, Mariellen, Charles and Jane, all at home. Three half-sisters and one half-brother, Miss Ruth Matts of Tyrone, Mrs. Alton Hanna and Miss Thelma Matts of Lewistown, and Fabian J. Matts of this city, also survive. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the B. of L. F. and E. Funeral services will be held at the late home at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.
