At half past 7 o'clock yesterday morning Mr. Joseph Howard, a highly respected and well known resident of this city, died at his home No. 1018 Seventh avenue, of erysipelas, from which disease he had been a sufferer for nearly three weeks. He was born Sunday, February 15th, 1852, in Washington, D.C., and had he lived until the 15th of next month would have been aged 39 years. In 1870 he was married and in the same year came to this city, since which time he had been employed at his trade, that of a painter, by the company, latterly under Charles Mason. The deceased leaves to mourn their loss, a wife and three sons - they being Charles, Owen and Edward. Two sisters - Mrs. Dotzler, of this city, and Mrs. Annie Delano, of Washington, D.C., and one brother, ex-Mayor William T. Howard, of this city, also survive. By his death White Cross lodge 354, Knights of Pythias, loses one of its best members. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Relief Fund. The funeral will leave the late residence on Wednesday afternoon to proceed to the Simpson Methodist Episcopal church, where at 2 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. R. E. Wilson, will conduct the services.
