Mrs. Catherine Howell, widow of James Howell and a former resident of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Miss Fannie Howell, at Gallitzin at 6 o'clock last evening of diseases incident to old age after a short illness. Deceased was aged 80 years and had resided in this vicinity for a number of years. For several years the family resided at Sixth avenue near Tenth street, and during that time she was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic church. She had resided with her daughter at Gallitzin for several years. She was a member of St. Patrick's church, at Gallitzin and the Third Order of St. Francis. By those who shared her acquaintance here she was held in the highest esteem. Her husband and two children, Mrs. James Lynam and John E. Howell preceded her to the grave. She is survived by four children, Miss Fannie Howell, with whom she resided; Mrs. John Dowling, of Detroit; George A. and James B. Howell, of this city. The funeral will take place Monday morning, mass to be said at St. Patrick's church at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. Patrick's cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Saturday, January 4, 1919, page 9
