Hudson, and they are many, will come with startling suddenness the announcement of that gentleman's death, which event occurred Monday morning at about half-past 11 o'clock, at the Central hotel, where he had boarded for several years past. Mr. Hudson had not been in good health for the past two weeks or more, complaining considerably of a pain in his side, and in consequence had not been to his store during that time. On Sunday last, however, he ate his dinner and supper and remained in the hotel office until about 9 o'clock, when he retired. At half-past 12 he was taken sick and a physician was summoned, who remained with him the rest of the night. Growing worse yesterday morning, two other physicians were called in, but their efforts were unavailing and at half past 11 o'clock he passed beyond the borders of this world. Death was in all likelihood the result of apoplexy. Mr. Hudson was about 50 years of age and was born in Elkton, Md. Of his relatives but little is known but it was learned that he has a sister who resides somewhere in Philadelphia. For many years he traveled as a representative of leading business houses and no man on the road was better liked, or had a larger fund of entertaining anecdotes. He was known throughout the state and there is scarcely a town in Pennsylvania in which he has not been. He at one time traveled for Godfrey Rebler [Keebler], cracker merchant, of Philadelphia. Afterward as a representative of a drug house he made an extended tour of the southern states. Still later he was in the employe of Kennedy & Clark, grocers, of Philadelphia, and some three or four years ago entered the service of Calvin Chestnut & Co., of Baltimore, dealers in groceries, etc. Of late years he made Altoona his headquarters and was at the time of his death a member of the firm of Hudson & Fay, doing business on Eleventh avenue near Ninth street.
