HUNTER Departed this life January 14, 1906, at the home of his son-in-law R.C. Simpson, mine superintendant of the Davis Coal and Coke Co., Thomas, W.Va., at the ripe old age of 73 years, 6 months and 21 days. He was born in Blair county, Pa., on or near the spot where the city of Altoona now stands. In 1852 he was married to Miss Mary Christwell, with whom he lived happily until April 8, 1895, when she was taken to rest. The remainder of his life was spent with his children. He was a veteran of the civil war, responding to the call of his country at an early period of the war and serving until the end. He was a private in the Eleventh Pennsylvania Volunteers. Mr. Hunter leaves many friends through Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia, who were made by his upright and honorable dealings with all men. He is survived by his six children, the oldest of which is Prof. J. L. Hunter ---- of Davis W. Va., a music teacher of considerable merit; Wm. T. Hunter of Altoona, Mrs. Cecelia Cox of Franklin county, N.Y., Mrs. Jennie Curry of Cannonsburg?, Pa., Mrs. Leo--- Simpson of Thomas, W. Va., all of whom attended him to his last resting place, except Mrs. Cox. Interment was made in Davis cemetery. The officiating minister was Rev. W. M. Given? of the Lan? Memorial Methodist church, Davis, W.Va., who conducted the funeral rites at the home of Mrs. R. C. Simpson. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., January 26, 1906
