Two Paupers Die in the Almshouse of Old Age. On Saturday evening an old man named Bartley died in the almshouse. Bartley formerly owned a farm in Juniata township, and after the death of his wife he was induced to sell his land and live with strangers who professed to be his friend. After getting all his money they removed him to the almshouse to die. The old man appeared to know his time had come, as a few hours previous he requested another inmate named Pat Ward to give him a match to light his pipe, remarking it would be the last smoke he would ever want, as he would die before night. On Monday evening another old inmate named Harry Hurst died. Mr. Hurst a few years ago kept a little store near the White Hall Hotel in Altoona and often peddled through the country, and was well known in the town where he lived for many years. On one of his trips he became deranged and not only threw away his pack of goods but his clothing also, and was found wandering about in Hickory bottom in a nude state. He was taken to the almshouse and after a few months got well. He will be buried to-morrow in the Catholic graveyard in this town. Both of the deceased died of old age.
