Death of a Much Respected Citizen of Blair County. PASSED AWAY AT EUSTIS, FLA. Was Past 73 Years of Age, a Presbyterian in Religious Faith, and Had a Long and Eventful Business Career. TIME OF FUNERAL NOT KNOWN The Tribune's correspondent at Hollidaysburg sends us the following: Mr. Joseph Hutchinson, a widely known and respected resident of Blair county, died yesterday at 12 o'clock noon, at his winter home, at Eustis, Florida. The deceased had been an invalid for some years past. One week ago, he became afflicted with neuralgia of the stomach, and his decline to the tomb was sure. Mr. Hutchinson was born December 3, 1827, being at the time of death 73 years, 3 months and 6 days of age. He came of Scotch-Irish Presbyterian parentage. His parents, James and Mary Hutchinson, were natives of Northumberland county. In early life, he successfully followed the occupation of a farmer. He afterwards became engaged in the business of manufacturing brick, on Newry street, Gaysport. He was a most methodical and sagacious business man, and the work of his mature years was characterized by intense energy and thrift. At one time, he superintended coal mining operations in Cambria county, controlled by Martin Bell, father of Mrs. John Dean. The only public offices which he ever held were director of the poor twenty years ago, and school director. He was also a director of the Blair County Agricultural society. On February 7, 1850, he was married to Miss Mary Scott, of near Altoona. To their union of felicity were born the following children, all of whom, together with the mother, are now living: Mrs. Annetta R. Wilson, of Shenandoah, Ia.; M. B. Hutchinson, of Ottumwa, Ia.; Mrs. M. R. Alexander, of Chambersburg, Pa.; James and Misses Mary and Martha, at home. He is also survived by four sisters, viz: Mrs. Jenny Martin, who resides near Martinsburg; Mrs. William M. Lloyd, of Buffalo, N.Y.; and Misses Sadie and Anna Hutchinson, of Altoona. Mr. Hutchinson was the proprietor of extensive real estate interests in Altoona. One of the closing acts of his life was the planning of a fine business block to be erected at the corner of Twelfth avenue and Twelfth street. The contracts were let by him for this important undertaking, and his plans were so laid that while the man might die yet his work should go on. He was an adherent to the Presbyterian faith and the Churches at Eustis and Hollidaysburg lose a zealous member and contributor. The remains, accompanied by the wife and daughter, Miss Mary, leave Eustis this morning on the northward bound journey for Hollidaysburg. The time of the funeral has not yet been made known. Morning Tribune, Saturday, March 10, 1900 HOLLIDAYSBURG HAPPENINGS.
