He was born Oct. 26, 1894, in Osterburg, a son of David W. and Julia Ann (Ake) Ickes, and had been a resident of Altoona since early childhood. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Flaugh Ickes; one son, Ray, at home; two grandchildren, Carroll and Ralph, at home; two brothers and one sister, Sherman and Ralph Ickes of Altoona and Mrs. T. A. Sheesley of Jackson, Mich. Mr. Ickes was a member of the First Lutheran church, the Gallitzin American Legion post, the L.O.O.M. of Gallitzin and the F.O.E. of Altoona.
