He had been ill about a year, suffering from a complication of diseases. Born in Warrior's Mark valley May 21, 1842, the deceased spent most of his lifetime until 1892, as a resident of Tyrone. He was married April 19, 1866, and his wife, Mrs. Addie Burket Ike, survives him. Their only son. Dr. Edgar M. Ike, died several years ago. Henry Myers, of Tyrone, is a half brother of the deceased; and A. D. and D. B. Mingle, of this place, are his cousins. Mr. Ike was one of the oldest living members of Tyrone lodge No. 494, Free and Accepted Masons, and since removing to Altoona, he came to Tyrone frequently to attend the lodge meetings. He was a member of the Second United Brethren church of Altoona. In early life he secured a good education in the schools of his home community and at the Iron City Commercial college of Pittsburgh. During the Civil war he volunteered in a Union regiment, but before he could be mustered into service, he was prostrated by a severe attack of rheumatism from which he did not recover until the war had ended. Mr. Ike became a resident of Tyrone in 1867, and here was for several years a teacher in the public schools, afterward establishing the general store on Pennsylvania avenue, which he sold to Mingle Brothers in 1892. Upon disposing of this business he removed to Altoona, and of late years he had lived a retired life. During his residence in Tyrone, Mr. Ike served the people as a member of borough council and also as school director. He was a man of especially sunny disposition and had a host of friends. The funeral took place at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Second United Brethren church, Fifth avenue between Second and Third streets, Altoona. Rev. C. W. Winery, T. P. Orner and G. W. Bergy, conducted, the services there. The ceremonies at Greenwood cemetery, Altoona, where interment was made, were in charge of the Tyrone lodge of Masons.
