All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ LAURA AMELIA IRWIN Miss Laura Amelia Irwin, 95, of 412 Maple Avenue, Bellwood, died Wednesday morning June 4, 2003 at the Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg. She was born May 26, 1908 in Bellwood, a daughter of the late L. Willard and Ida (Henshey) Irwin. Miss Irwin was a life member of the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood where she was a former member of the Women's Mission Club and the Women's Service Club. She was also a former director of both the adult church choir and the junior choir. She retired from the Bellwood-Antis School District as an elementary school teacher in 1972 after 42 years of service. She graduated from Bellwood High School in 1926, the Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1930 with an Associate Degree in Elementary Teaching. She later received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University. She was a life member of the Pennsylvania National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Shippensburg alumni, Penn State alumni, Blair County Historical Society and a former member of the Alto Artist's Guild. Miss Irwin was especially interested in art, music and conservation. Miss Irwin is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Friends were received this morning and the funeral service was at 11 a.m. at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Interment was at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 401 South 1st Street, Bellwood, Pa. 16617 or to a charity of individual choice.
