Mention was made in the TRIBUNE on Tuesday morning of a fatal accident which resulted in the death of William Isett, a former resident of this city. The body was brought to Altoona on Monday evening and taken to the residence of the brother in law of the deceased, Mr. James H. Larned, No. 222 Howard avenue, Logantown, from whence the funeral will take place at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Services will be held at the house and will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Bain. The interment will be in Fairview cemetery. From I. L. Emerick, of Chatanooga [sic], Tenn., who had known the deceased for many years, being a conductor with him on the same road, we learned the following account of the accident which resulted in the death of Mr. Isett: The accident occurred at half-past 5 o'clock on Friday afternoon last, at No. 17 Tunnel near Chatanooga, on the line of the New Orleans, Texas and Pacific railroad. At the time Conductor Isett was endeavoring to make a coupling between an engine and a car when he was caught and crushed. He was taken to the Good Samaritan hospital at Cincinnati, where he died on Sunday morning. Previous to his death he was unconscious for a number of hours. Three of his ribs had been forced into his lung and until relieved by unconsciousness he suffered terrible agony. Mr. Emerick accompanied the remains to this city. The deceased was a member of the order of Railroad Conductors No. 114, of Pittsburgh, and was 30 years of age last October. He had been railroading for about 14 years and at one time worked in the Altoona yard. His mother survives him, as do also his wife and one child, the two latter residing at Denniston, Ohio. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Castilla Ferguson, of Amity, Mercer county, and Mrs. James H. Larned, of this city, with whom the mother resides. His brother was killed three years ago, on the railroad at Denniston. Altoona Tribune, March 7, 1889
