Two little boys, sons of Geo. A. Jacobs and John Cox, Esq., respectively, went, unknown to their friends, to the canal, just across the basin, to swim, in the later part of the afternoon, and at half past seven o'clock in the evening were found drowned. Their clothes were discovered by Mr. Cox on the bank of the canal, as he was passing by and instant search revealed to the unhappy parent that his "Harry" and his little companion "Jimmy" were drowned. Immediate efforts were made for their resuscitation, but it was in vain, for an examination disclosed the fact that they had probably been in the water for an hour. The boys were aged respectfully six and five years and were well known to all as lovely and interesting children. Two families have thus, without a moment's warning, lost the lights of their households, and sustained such a calamity as only fond parents can feel. Let the sad fate of those innocents be a warning to our people, else, before the season is closed, more will be called upon to mourn the untimely fate of some of their little ones.
