MATTIE JOHNSON, A Well-Known Public Character, Dies Suddenly. Mrs. Mattie Johnson, who up till this week kept a resort for the vicious of both sexes at the corner of Tenth avenue and Sixteenth street, died suddenly between 10 and 11 o'clock this morning, at the residence of Mrs. Hetrick, 1520 Third avenue. Because of the annoyance she met with lately in the numerous raids made by the police and constables, she had been disposing of her household property for the past week, and yesterday went to Mrs. Hetrick, intending to remain there only till this afternoon, when she would go to the home of her father and mother in Indiana county. Coroner Poet went to the house in company with Dr. Spanogle who examined the body and gave it as his opinion that death resulted from heart disease. The coroner then concluded not to hold an inquest. The deceased was aged about 40 years, and Johnson was her proper name. Her husband left her some years ago. She was keeping one son at Indiana Normal school and two young daughters at St. Xavier's academy, near Latrobe. Her remains will be taken to Indiana for interment tomorrow.
