Johnston, wife of J. K. Johnston, retired superintendent of the Tyrone Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died suddenly at her home, corner North avenue and Fourteenth street, this morning at 11:45 o'clock following a heart attack. Mrs. Johnston had not been in the best of health for some, time but had been able to be about. This morning at eight o'clock she suffered a severe heart attack, passing away a few hours later. Mrs. Martha R. Johnston was a daughter of Alfred W. and Suzanne (Washington) Jones and was born at Broad Ford, Fayette county, on January 6, 1866. On December 23, 1886, at Greensburg, Pa., she was united in marriage with John Kilgore Johnston. Surviving are her husband and these children: Mrs. Bowman Duncan, of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Norman N. Lawrence, of New Castle; and Mrs. Harry Barnes, of Tyrone; also three grandchildren, Suzanne Kanour, Martha Lawrence and John Barnes. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Moore Mission Circle. Mrs. Johnston was a resident of Tyrone from November 1888, to November 1889 when Mr. Johnston was acting division engineer of the Tyrone Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad company. In November 1903 the family moved to Tyrone when Mr. Johnston was made superintendent of the Tyrone Division. She was active in church and civic affairs and for a number of years was director of the charitable work of the Women's Aid of the Tyrone Division which did much to relieve distress among the families of railroad employees. Johnston, who died at her home on North avenue on Thursday morning, will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home, in charge of Rev. Dr. Joseph A.
