When the war of the rebellion came he served three years in the telegraph branch of the service of the United States army. The war over, he engaged in mercantile pursuits and between the years 1868 and 1876 conducted the same in this city. His health failing, he followed various lines of business until three years ago when he was compelled to cease from active work. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian church. Surviving him he leaves his sorrowing wife and one son, E. M. His father, Enos M. Jones, is also living, as are three sisters - Catharine A., Mary A., and Elizabeth, all of Altoona.
