A Boy Who Had His Hand Hurt by the Bursting of a Gun. At 6.05 last evening Frank Kahle, jr., died of an attack of lock-jaw at the Altoona hospital. Last Saturday the boy had his right thumb almost blown off by the bursting of a shotgun which he was using to kill rats in his father's barn in Bell's extension. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and although the hospital authorities were of the opinion that the thumb should be amputated there was some objection to the operation and after the boy's wound was dressed he went home. He was suffering almost continually and on Thursday, after taking a convulsion, he was sent back to the hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. He was given three injections of anti-toxine for tetanus, but there was seemingly no improvement in his condition. He gradually grew worse until death ended his sufferings last evening. The deceased was 15 years of age and is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kahle, of Bell's extension,, and by one brother at home. The father of the dead boy had his leg amputated at the hospital about a year ago. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. Morning Tribune, Saturday, July 1, 1899
