KANE 71, of 2015 4th Ave. died at 1:25 a.m. today, Sept. 14, 1981, in Altoona VA Medical Center, after an extended illness. Mr. Kane retired as a optician from the American Optical Co. in 1972, after 45 years' service. He was born July 1, 1910, in Carrolltown, the son of Aaron and Frances (Karlheim) Kane, and Jan. 27, 1951, in Altoona, married Edna I. Weller. Surviving are his wife, a stepson, Donald E. Weller of Altoona, four step-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Barnicle and Mary of Carrolltown. Mr. Kane was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a life member of the Frohsinn Singing Society. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 578th Signal Dep. Co. in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Daniel R. Myers Funeral Home. KANE - The funeral of Charles J. Kane of 2015 4th Ave. will be held with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, by Monsignor Anthony J. O'Toole. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Daniel R. Myers Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and a wake service at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
