Kanour World War II Army veteran, helped create 'Tyrone Day' celebration in Naples Florida. Mr. William W. Kanour, age 76, of Naples Florida died Friday, November 30, 2001. Mr. Kanour was a former Tyrone resident and lived in Naples for 16 years. He was born December 29, 1924, in Tyrone, the son of George and Anna Waite Kanour. He is survived by his wife, Velda, of Naples; one son: Commander William W. Kanour with the U.S. Navy in Hawaii; one daughter, Kathleen Kelley, of Enfield, Conn. His sister, Mrs. Jessie L. Hutchison of Tyrone preceded him in death by two days on November 28, 2001. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1942 and Penn State University. He served in the South Pacific in World War II and received a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bellefonte, and a member of the Penn State Alumni Association and the North Naples United Methodist Church. Mr. Kanour will be remembered as the person most responsible for establishing the very popular "Tyrone Day," which is held every spring in Naples. A memorial service was held Thursday, December 6, 2001 at the North Naples United Methodist Church. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., December 18, 2001
