Thomas Keegan, who resided in the "Ridges," six miles west of Newry, died suddenly at 10 o'clock on Monday night, at the remarkable age of 108 years. He was a native of Ireland, and had a very distinct recollection of the "rebellion of '98," having been 17 years old and having carried a pike in that bloody episode in the history of his unhappy country. Mr. Keegan emigrated to the United States seventy-five years ago, and was for many years a resident of this county, of which he was unquestionably the oldest inhabitant at the time of his death. He was quite well preserved for a man of his age and presented himself at the polls last November, where he deposited a democratic ballot as had been his habit ever since he became a citizen. His wife died several years ago, and as he was never the father of any children, he would have been quite alone in the world had it not been for his niece, who kept house for him during the closing years of his life. He appears to have been in his usual health up to the time of his death and enjoyed his usual evening smoke a few minutes before he expired. Mr. Keegan was a member of the Catholic church, and his remains were interred in St. Patrick's cemetery, Newry, at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, March 28, 1889
