Kendig, a widely known Pennsy employe, died of acute indigestion. A curious coincidence is the fact that just a year previous to the very day, his brother, R. B. Kendig, chief mechanical engineer for the New York Central, died suddenly of the same disease. Mr. Kendig was in charge of the department of shop inspection in the office of the general superintendent of motive power. He had been in Altoona for six years, coming from Williamsport, when he had gone from Renovo, where he learned his trade. He was born October 23, 1872. Surviving are his wife, a son and daughter, at home. Three brothers and a sister also survive. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. (Clinton county papers please copy). Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, May 7, 1918 W. M. KENDIG SUDDENLY DIED YESTERDAY P.M. W. M. Kendig, aged 45, head of the shop inspection in the office of the general superintendent of motive power, died suddenly at his home, 2111 West Chestnut avenue, at 1:55 o'clock yesterday afternoon, of acute indigestion. Just one year ago yesterday, at almost the same hour, Roscoe B. Kendig, then chief mechanical engineer of the New York Central, a brother of W. M. Kendig, died of the same disease. Mr. Kendig was born at Renovo, and at the age of 25 years entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company at that place. He worked there for several years, and was then transferred to a more lucrative position at Williamsport. Six years ago he came to this city and had since been employed here. Late last week Mr. Kendig was taken slightly ill, but was not bedfast. However, he did not go to his office but remained at home. He was about as usual yesterday, feeling slightly improved. He suffered an attack of acute indigestion shortly after 1 o'clock, and died within a short time. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mary and Russell, both at home and by the following brothers: Julian, Pittsburgh; Joseph, Renovo; Louis, Columbus, O.; one sister, Mrs. Kintner, of Renovo, also survives. Funeral announcement will be made later. (Clinton county papers please copy.)
