VanZandt V.A. Medical Center, Altoona. He was born April 21, 1912 in Tyrone, a son of Alexander X. and Pearl (Askey) Kennedy. He is survived by two daughters: Gwen Barrett, Tyrone, and Janis Parduski, Mt Joy; a son, Ronald Kennedy, Altoona; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Arthur Kennedy. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyrone. He was a two-time past Commander of the Anderson-Denny Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4559 and was a past Commander of the 22nd District Pa. State Veterans of Foreign War. He was also a member of the Tyrone Elks Lodge #212, the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Howard Gardner American Legion Post No. 281. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class in the South and Central Pacific Theater. Hayes was employed for 40 years at Westvaco, Tyrone, as a Pulp Mill Foreman. He then served as Club Steward at the Howard Gardner American Legion until his retirement in 1977. He had played baseball for the local West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company Team in the Twilight League in the 1920s and 1930s. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Blair Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Feller Memorial Home. Tyrone Daily Herald, November 14, 1994, page 2
