Keyes, Whose serious illness had been noted in these columns, died at his residence, No. 1517 Twelfth avenue, at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Keyes, who was constable in the Third ward, had been in delicate health for a year past, but was able to attend to his usual duties until five weeks ago. His last service was at the January term of court, where he assisted the sheriff. The rough weather prevailing at that time brought on a severe cold, which attacked his already weak lungs and they were from the first seriously affected. Since then, about five weeks ago, he was confined to his home and three weeks ago he took to his bed. The disease progressed rapidly until death kindly came to his relief. Mr. Keyes was a most upright, generous-hearted man and had a host of friends throughout the city and county. He was born in Hollidaysburg, January 8, 1852, and resided there until coming to this city in the summer of 1875. He was for a time engaged in the gents' furnishing goods business and afterwards conducted the Powell House on Tenth avenue. During recent years he had been constable in the Third ward and was returned to that office at the last election. In November, 1881, he married Miss Annie Sharp, who with four daughters survive him, the eldest in her tenth year and the youngest two years of age. They are Mary, Julia, Jennie and Elsie. He is also mourned by his mother, Mrs. Johanna Keyes, of this city, and two brothers and two sisters: Patrick, John and Miss Johanna, of this city, and Mrs. B. Cully, now of Loretto, Cambria county. The announcement of his untimely death will be received everywhere with sincere sorrow. During his final illness he was consoled by the sacraments of the Catholic church of which he was a member, and his kindly spirit was not unprepared for the change from earth to eternity. Funeral services will be held in St. John's church on Saturday morning, the cortege leaving the house at 8:30 o'clock. Interment in St. John's cemetery.
