On Saturday afternoon Councilman Thomas Kinney, while working at the Keenan quarry, was so unfortunate as to have his right arm crushed by a fall of rock. On Sunday Dr. G. W. Smith, the attending physician - assisted by Dr. D. S. Hays - amputated the arm about four inches from the shoulder. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, November 23, 1880 HOLLIDAYSBURG HAPPENINGS. Death of Councilman Kinney. Thomas Kinney died on Friday evening. The readers of the TRIBUNE have been furnished with the particulars of the distressing accident to Mr. Kinney which caused him to submit to the amputation of his right arm near the shoulder. In addition to his own suffering the death of his son and the serious illness of a daughter was more than he could bear and death kindly came to his relief. Mr. Kinney was about ? years of age, a miner by profession, and at the time of his death a member of the Borough Council and a man greatly respected by all. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery on Sunday.
