Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, February 2, 1880 Decease of Samuel Kitt. About two o'clock on Saturday morning Samuel Kitt, one of Altoona's older men, died at his home in this city. He has been a resident here for the past twenty-eight years and was well known as a faithful employe of the Pennsylvania railroad company. Mr. Kitt was born in Newton Hamilton, Mifflin county, and had reached the age of 52 years. He learned the trade of blacksmith, but the earlier years of his life were spent as a fireman on the main line of the Pennsylvania railroad. He removed to Altoona at the time when the shops were being constructed, and was at once engaged in the blacksmithing department. He continued at this occupation until about eight months ago, when he was promoted to a foremanship. Mr. Kitt was married with Miss Mary Cayne, who came to Altoona from Ireland two years previous, on the 28th of March, 1854. The ceremony, which took place at Lewistown, Pa., was performed by Rev. B. H. Crever, a Methodist clergyman. The fruit of this union was eleven children, seven of whom are at present living. Mrs. Kitt also survives her husband. About nine years ago Mr. Kitt united with Rev. Henry Baker's First Lutheran church, and he has ever since been a faithful, worthy and consistent member. His disease was gangrene of one lung, which was caused by a sprain about three months since. The funeral service will be conducted in the First Lutheran church, on Eleventh avenue, to-day at 2:30 P.M.
