Little George Knee, of Bennington, Meets a Very Sad End. George, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Knee, of Bennington, set fire to his clothing on Monday while playing with matches and was fatally burned dying three hours later. The little fellow was aged 3 years and 11 months. During the forenoon Mrs. Knee was called into the garden by her housework and in her absence the child managed to reach some matches which were lying on the window sill. He struck one of these and set fire to his clothing. His cries of terror brought help, but not before he was so badly burned that death resulted three hours later. Rev. S. D. Daugherty, of Grace Lutheran church, went to Bennington yesterday and conducted the funeral services. The interment was made at Bennington. The father of the child is employed as a coal miner at Bennington. Morning Tribune, Thursday, December 30, 1897
