George Keolle [sic] who lived on Fourth avenue near Seventeenth street was killed yesterday, down near the Red bridge, about a mile below the Ninth street railroad crossing. He is an employe of the railroad and was engaged on the dumps at that place. Just as the mail train east came along, about 3 o'clock, he stepped on the track directly in front of the approaching train. It struck him, and threw the body back against the dump. Some one immediately ran and picked him up, but his head was badly crushed and he lived only a few minutes. The body was conveyed to his home. Deceased was an elderly man, and leaves seven children, most of whom are grown up. He was a mason by trade and came to this country from Baden about 12 years ago. Owing to the scarcity of building work he took a position on the railroad three years ago. Morning Tribune, Tuesday, December 23, 1879 IN MOURNING. Concordia Hall will be draped in mourning for thirty days, in honor of the late George Koelle, who was killed on the railroad. The Concordia intended to have a ball on Christmas eve, as has been their custom, but they postponed it on account of his decease, he being a life member. They met and had a treat for the members and their families. Morning Tribune, Tuesday, December 30, 1879
