DIES IN HOSPITAL

Brief Illness Proves Fatal

  Bernard Koener, 46, of 1314 Pennsylvania Ave., Tyrone, barber and 
musician, died at 5.20 p.m. yesterday, in the Tyrone Hospital after a 
brief illness. 
  He was born in Tyrone May 16, 1917, a son of John N. and Barbara 
(Bonsell) Koener, and married Evelyn Fox of Juniata.  
  Surviving are his wife, three children, Barbara and Joan, at home, 
and Bernard Jr., in the Army and his mother, of Tyrone.  His father 
died April 20 of this year. 
  Mr. Koener was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, 
Tyrone, operated a barber shop in Tyrone and was well known as a 
musician, having  played in an orchestra throughout central 
Pennsylvania for a number of years.  He was a past president of the 
Musicians Union in Tyrone and a member of the Altoona Local. 
  Friends will be received at the Johnson Funeral Home, Tyrone, after 7 
p.m. today.
