Peter Kratzert, an old and highly respected German resident of Hollidaysburg, died yesterday morning at 9.30 o'clock, at his home, 609 Juniata street, of a complication of diseases resultant from old age. He had been sick all winter, but was only confined to his bed for one day preceding his death, and his demise was quite a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Kratzert was born in Baden, Germany, on Mar. 24, 1840, where he learned the trade of a baker, when a young man. He came to this country at the age of 24 years, and first located in New York city, where he worked at his trade for a short time, later working as a baker at other cities in that section. About fifty years ago, he came to Hollidaysburg and had lived here ever since. For some years he was employed in the local rolling mills and later entered the Pennsylvania Railroad shops at Twelfth street, Altoona, where he remained until retired at the age of 68 years. Mr. Kratzert was always of a very jovial and cheerful disposition that won him many friends. When he left the service of the railroad company, his shopmates celebrated the event and presented him with gifts. During his residence in New York, he was married to Miss Arliertina Arbley of that city, who preceded him to the grave on January 21st of the present year. The following children survive him: Albert and Joseph, of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Kate Hanley, of Punxsutawney; Mrs. Samuel D. Fessler, of Hollidaysburg and Miss Caroline at home. Deceased is also survived by three sisters in Germany. He was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at his late home, at 2.30 o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. Julius F. Seebach. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian church.
