KRAUSE, Whose foot was amputated at the Altoona hospital on Thursday morning, died at 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning. The operation had been performed in an attempt to arrest gangrene. Mr. Krause was born in Witenberger, Germany, on January 7, 1830, and came to this country in 1845. He served as a government sailor for six years. From 1856 to 1861 he resided in Pittsburg. August 22, 1863, while a citizen of Altoona, he enlisted in the 49th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was wounded at Cold Harbor in May, 1864. This was an injury to the leg and it bothered him ever since and was the cause of the gangrene, which finally caused his death. Mr. Krause was employed in the company's upper machine shops and belonged to the relief fund. He was married March 10, 1857, In Allegheny City, to Miss Rosie Fensler, who, with six children, survives him. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father and the sorrowing wife and children have sustained a loss which is irreparable. Funeral services will be held at his late residence, 135 Washington avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. J. F. Moyer; interment in the Fairview cemetery.
