Kurfman, who resided for many years at 1423 1/2 11th Ave. and engaged in the dressmaking business, died at 3.45 a.m. today in the Altoona Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Kurfman engaged in the dressmaking business before the day of ready-to-wear clothing and at one time employed as high as 12 seamstresses in her establishment. She was born in Claysburg, a daughter of George W. and Henriette (Shaffer) Mauk, and was educated in the Indiana and Millersville State Normal Schools, teaching for a number of years in the Millville School in the Allegheny Furnace area. Mrs. Kurfman was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Altoona Elks. Surviving are one brother, John S. Mauk of Wehnwood, and several nieces and nephews.
