All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ ROARING SPRING ITEMS AGED RESIDENT PASSES Mrs. Barbara Kurts [sic], an aged and well known Roaring Spring woman, widow of Samuel Kurtz, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Kurtz, at 12.40 o'clock Sunday afternoon after an illness of six months. She suffered from a complication of diseases, superinduced by old age. She was born on Nov. 1, 1840, at Woodbury, and was daughter of John B. and Barbara Longenecker. She resided at home until her marriage in 1871. She was twice married and although 77 years old she lived with each of her husbands but three years, death claiming both. In 1871 she became the wife of Samuel O. Harris of Huntingdon county. They began housekeeping on a farm near Martinsburg and lived happily until his death three years later. Three children were born to this union and but one, Mrs. Thad Querry, survives here. After the death of her husband with her child she returned to the home of her parents and ten years later married Samuel Kurtz, of Roaring Spring. A son, Irvin, of Roaring Spring, was born and three years after the marriage Mr. Kurtz died. Following his death she resided at Roaring Spring on the Kurtz property until some years ago when she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Querry. Besides the son and daughter mentioned she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carrie Baird, of Portage, and the following brothers, John of Gettysburg, Phillip of Harrisonville, Mo., and Jacob of New Enterprise. Also eight grandchildren. She was a great church worker and has been affiliated with the Church of God ever since she came to Roaring Spring. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid society and also attended Sunday school when able. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services in the Bethel church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. J. A. Detter. Interment will following in Greenlawn cemetery.
