Mrs. Abbie Susan Kyper, widow of the late George W. Kyper and for many years an estimable and highly respected resident of Bellwood, died at 5:30 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of her son, Leslie R. Kyper, at Rocky Ledge farm, of diseases incident to old age. She had been in failing health for some years, but spent the past six winters in Florida in the hope that her health might be benefited, however, this winter she attained no benefit and returned north on January 3 and had since been at the home of her daughter and son. Deceased was the daughter of John Daniel and Rachel Fleck Ramey and was born June 25, 1845, in Sinking Valley, where she spent the early years of her life. She taught school while a young girl and in 1861 went to Alexandria, Va., where she served as a nurse during the Civil war. After the bitter struggle she returned to her home where on December 28, 1871, she married George W. Kyper, who preceded her to the grave on November 22, 1901. she is survived by these children, Leslie R., at whose home she died; Mrs. W. T. Stevens and Dr. Don C. Kyper, of Altoona. A son, J. Dan Kyper, died only several months ago. She is also survived by these grandchildren, Susan, Naomi and Georgie Stevens and Margerie Kyper, of Altoona and Marion, Dardanelle and Margaret Kyper, of Bellwood. She was the last of a family of four children, three brothers, John B. Ramey, a veteran of the Civil war and a civil engineer; Harry Ramey, a veteran of the Civil war and residing at Alexandria, Va.,, and Sanford D. Ramey, a live [sic] long resident of Blair county and also Civil war veteran. She was a devout Christian woman and had been a member of the Grace Lutheran church of Bellwood, being one of its charter members. For a period of fifty years she taught a class in the Sunday school. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning and will be strictly private. Interment will be made in Logan Valley cemetery.
