Lackey, a former prominent citizen and merchant of Altoona and who during his residence here resided on Fourteenth avenue, died at the Pennsylvania hospital, near Philadelphia, yesterday morning at 7:15 o'clock. He had been an invalid for a period of twenty-five years and had been a patient at the hospital for nineteen years. His son, David H. Lackey, of Peoria, Ill., and his daughter, Mrs. K. L. Merrell, of Cleveland, were with him at the end. Mr. Lackey was born in Perry county and was in his 75th year. He came to Altoona when a young man and had resided here until his health failed him. He at one time worked as a compositor on the Tribune when it was owned and published by Dern & McCrum. Later he engaged in the queensware business under the firm name of Patton & Lackey, their store being located on Eleventh avenue where Gable's store is now located. Later Mr. Lackey conducted a store on Eleventh avenue between Eleventh and Twelfth streets and it was during his business career there that his health failed him. He was a man of most pleasing appearance and good address and took a keen and active interest in the civic affairs of the city. He was highly esteemed and respected by those who shared his acquaintance. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having served with distinction during the bitter strife. He was a member of the First Baptist church, post No. 62, Grand Army of the Republic, the Knights of Pythias and the Improved Order of Heptasophs. He was united in marriage in 1871 to Miss Alice K. Henshey, of Logan Springs, near Bellwood. She preceded him to the grave some years ago and he is survived only by the two children who were with him when he passed away. The remains will be brought to Bellwood and services held in the Bellwood Baptist church at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Interment will be made in the Logan Valley cemetery.
