Laird, 83, of Oval, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at the Jersey Shore Hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1923 in Bellwood, the son of the late Mordecai and Hattie McMonigal. Charles retired in 1983 after 34 years of working for the PA Game Commission. He had last served as regional director of the Northcentral Region. He was a graduate of Bellwood High School, Zeth Business School and PSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry Science. Charles was married to Marjorie Nearhoof, his wife of 60 years who survives, on Sept. 14, 1946 in Bellwood. In addition to his wife, also surviving are: two sons: Timothy C. Laird of Cogan Station and K. Scott Laird of Nesbit, three daughters: Corinthia C. Brungard of Castanea, Sylvia D. (Charles) Kramer of Huntington, IN and Amy L. (Michael) Maher of Hanover, and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all 11 of his brothers and sisters. Charles was a veteran of the US Army serving in the European Theatre of WW II. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, boating and hunting. Charles was an active member of the LaBelle Vallee Masonic Lodge #232 in Jersey Shore, where he attained his 32nd Degree and served as a Past Master of the Lodge. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Charles' Life Celebration service on Saturday Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Oval United Methodist Church with Rev. Joey A. Fleck and Rev. Barry Laird officiating. Interment at Oval Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd. "A Life Celebration Home" 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, PA. Family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Oval Untied Methodist Church Building Fund 6796 S.
