Landis, a well known machinist employed in the Altoona machine shops, residing at 1713 Twelfth avenue, was stricken with paralysis of the heart while at work in the lathe shop yesterday afternoon at 1.45 o'clock. He was at work at a planer he had operated for years, and falling to the floor expired in a few minutes. Dr. C. W. McConnell was summoned and when he arrived he has passed away. [sic] Mr. Landis was apparently in good health during the morning and at noon went to his home and ate a hearty dinner. He went to work as usual and seemed in excellent spirits. His death was sudden and was a shock to his family and fellow workmen. Coroner McCartney was called and after making an investigation decided an inquest unnecessary. The body was then removed to his home. The deceased was highly respected in the Fifth ward, where he had resided for years. He was aged 52 years and leaves a wife and seven children. He was a member of Christ Reformed church, also of the White Cross lodge, Knights of Pythias, and the Pennsylvania Railroad relief. The funeral will leave his late home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and proceed to Christ Reformed church, where services will be conducted by Rev. J. F. Moyer; interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Morning Tribune, Tuesday, November 21, 1899
