La Porte, a very prominent citizen of Tyrone, passed away at 12:30 Sunday at the Roaring Spring hospital. He had been a sufferer of Bright's disease for a number of years and about two weeks ago was taken to the hospital in the hope of prolonging his life. He was a son of the late John and Mary Ann La Porte and was born in Spruce Creek valley September 16, 1844. His most recent activity was in partnership with John L. Porter in the Real Estate and Insurance business and he retired from the firm in which they were associated about three years ago, his health precluding continuance in active business. Mr. La Porte was married twice. His first wife was Martha Given and to this union one daughter was born, Miss Martha D. La Porte, of Tyrone, now a member of the faculty of the Birmingham School for Girls. His second wife was Marie Porter who passed away in 1905. A nephew whom they reared, surviving, has been as a son of the deceased. This is Lieutenant Hugh Porte, who is in the U.S. army. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret McWilliams of this place. Mr. La Porte was a man of profound religious convictions and a most ardent member of the First Presbyterian church. The body was brought to Tyrone yesterday afternoon and was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Mingle, on Lincoln avenue, where funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. E. J. Lloyd, pastor of the Birmingham Presbyterian church will conduct the services, after which interment will be made in Alexandria. Altoona Tribune, Tuesday, January 14, 1919, page 11
