M. LaPorte, died at the family home, 1201 Lincoln Avenue, at one o'clock Friday morning. She suffered from stomach affliction and had been seriously ill the past two mouths. She was aged at death 51 years, 3 months and 10 days. Mrs. LaPorte was the daughter of George B. Porter and Sarah W. (Lyon) Porter, and was born at Alexandria, Huntingdon County, on the 17th of October, 1853. In February 1881, she was married to A. M. LaPorte, and since that time had resided in Tyrone. Her mother died in May 1860. She is survived by her husband, father and Miss Marsha LaPorte, all residing at the family home, and two brothers, William L. Porter, of Staplehurst, Nebraska, and John L. Porter, of Tyrone. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church since she was quite young, and was connected with the First church of Tyrone during her residence here. She was active in church work of all kinds, being a teacher in the Sunday school and a leader in auxiliary work of all kinds, especially that of missions. She was for many years the competent secretary of the Woman's Home Missionary society of Huntingdon Presbytery. Her zeal was never flagging, but she was always determined in the accomplishment of her purpose. She was of lively, cheerful temperament, kindly disposed and charitable. By her death the church sustains a serious loss and the home is saddened because of the departure of one whose life and spirit were ever present to enliven, comfort and serve. The funeral was held Monday. Services at the home at 12.45 o'clock, by Reverend George T. Gunter, after which the remains were conveyed to Alexandria on the 2.16 train for interment.
