All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JERRY WITMAN LEEDOM Long Illness Proves Fatal To Druggist Jerry Witman Leedom, age 63, of 405 Walnut Street, Hollidaysburg, prominent Duncansville druggist, died at his home 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon after having been ill since May 19, 1943. He had been a patient in Mercy Hospital for six weeks of his period illness, later returning to his home. Jerry Witman Leedom was a son of Levi and Emma (McCahan) Leedom both deceased and both of whom were pioneer and prominent residents of the county capital. The son was born in Hollidaysburg on December 11, 1881, and since had resided there, his residence being at 405 Walnut Street. The deceased was graduated from the Hollidaysburg High School in 1899. One year previous to his graduation from school he entered the employ of John P. Jacobs, then a Hollidaysburg pharmacist and continued in this position for some years. Mr. Leedom purchased the Isaac Hess drug store in Duncansville in 1913 and continued as proprietor of this establishment until his death. While his business interests were centered in Duncansville, he continued to reside in Hollidaysburg where for many years he was an active member of the Phoenix volunteer fire company. He was unmarried. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Miss Lucy A. Leedom, Miss Leah E. Leedom and Miss Ruth J. Leedom, with whom he made his home in Hollidaysburg; Mrs. L. I. Hart of Hollidaysburg, Paul Leedom, Hollidaysburg merchant, and Walter H. Leedom, Hollidaysburg druggist. He also leaves two nephews, Walter M. Leedom of Hollidaysburg and Robert B. Leedom of Huntingdon; one niece, Margaret Louise Leedom of Hollidaysburg and one grandniece, Linda Leedom and one grandnephew, Jerry F. Leedom of Huntingdon. Mr. Leedom was a member of the Hollidaysburg Methodist church, the Hollidaysburg lodge, No. 119, I.O.O.F.; Appalachian Encampment, No. 69, I.O.O.F.; Canton Hollidaysburg Patriarch Militant, No. 26, I.O.O.F.; Juniata lodge, No.282, F. and A.M., Hollidaysburg; Mount Moriah Royal Arch chapter, No. 166, Mountain commandery, No. 10, Knights Templar, Altoona: Williamsport consistory and Jaffa Shrine temple, Altoona. He also held membership in the Blair County Pharmaceutical Association and the Pennsylvania State Pharmaceutical Association. In addition to the memberships listed, he served many years as the director of the Duncansville Building and Loan Association, now in the process of liquidation. He was the vice president at the time of the inauguration of the liquidation proceedings and for several years prior to that. Mr. Leedom was the oldest business-man in Duncansville in years of service. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., March 7, 1945
